THERE was a good turnout as the horsey community braved the cold weather to watch the exciting Land Rover Celebrity Jump and Ride held at the Durban Shongweni Club.
THE exciting Land Rover sponsored Celebrity Jump and Drive Competition added an element of fun and excitement to the FEI World Dressage Challenge which was held at the Durban Shongweni Club from 14 to 17 October.
The event, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, had the crowds cheering for their favourite celebrity/rider combo as they competed for the grand prize of R10,000.
The duos had to complete a timed obstacle course in a Land Rover around the show jumps with the celebrity driving and ensuring the tennis ball on the “basket” on the hood of the car remained in place. The pair then had to race to where the horse was being held by the rider’s groom. The celebrity had to help their team mate mount before the rider tackled the 1.1m jumps at a rapid pace.
The winners were rider, Philippa Baxter and Motorcycle Champion, Russel Wood who completed both events in a time of 188.54.
