THE Mariannhill SAPS have warned pedestrians to be vigilant when walking to and from work after a 24-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint by two men on Friday 11 October on Abbot Francis Road.

The woman had left her workplace at the Mariannhill Monastery and was on her way to take a taxi home when the two men approached her. The men fled towards the Monastery after the other man grabbed the woman’s lunch bag. A motorist who saw what was going on tried to help but the men had run into the bushes.

“Try as much as possible to walk in groups and observe your surroundings for suspicious persons. Report suspicious behaviour to the police so that patrols can be increased and observations can be conducted,” said Warrant Officer Trevor Govender of Mariannhill SAPS.
