MEETINGS

REACH for Recovery Breast Cancer support group will host a fun, informative morning on Friday 27 September at the Botanic Garden’s Visitors Centre at 9am. Guest speakers are Dr Leon Marais (oncologist) and Dr Susan Chick (radiologist). Tea and snacks will be served. Contact 072 248 0008.

PARKINSON’S Friendship Group will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday 25 September at 9.30am at the Waterfall Library Link Road, Waterfall. Go along and enjoy an interesting morning, followed by tea and refreshments. Contact Rosemary on 031 777 1555.

HIGHWAY Heritage Society will meet on Saturday 28 September at 2pm. (No access after this time.) Guest speaker, Adrian Rowe, will present An introduction to Family History in South Africa and the UK. Cost is R10 for members and R15 for visitors, which includes coffee/tea and some eats. Booking is necessary by contacting Margret Kirsten on 031 765 8052 for catering purposes and directions.

KLOOF Women’s Institute will meet at the Kloof Civic Hall on Thursday 3 October at 9am. Guest speaker, Dr Morad Zaffron aka Dr Ismail, author of the recently published acclaimed novel entitled The Cure will present a talk on his book and research. Visitors welcome, especially book club members.

THE KZN Branch of the South African Military History Society will meet at UKZN’s Murray Theatre at the Department of Civil Enginnering on the Howard College campus on Thursday 10 October at 7pm. Two lectures will be presented. Dr John Cooke will present a 20-minute lecture titled, The Terracotta Warriors at the Darrell Hall memorial lecture room and Donald Davies will present the main lecture titled, British Psychological Warfare in Aden in the 1960s. TENSION and Trauma Release KZN (TRE), an NGO, is offering a three-day workshop for those wanting to learn about a body-based prevention and recovery process that can be safely used by individuals ranging from children to seniors, to relieve daily tension as well as chronic stress and anxiety, and recover from traumatic episodes in life. EVENTS

ASHLEY Residents Neighbourhood Watch will hold a fun day and craft market at Shaley Sports Club on Saturday 28 September from 9am to 3pm. Have fun with rainbow inflatables, super giant slide, zorb balls, bungee basketball, rocket as well as the ARNW paintball shooting range. The fundraiser is in aid of purchasing a repeater for the patrollers’ radios.
