Housebreakers sentenced to 15 years

The Pinetown Magistrate Court convicted two men to fifteen years imprisonment each for house robbery and three years each for possession of suspected stolen items.

THE Pinetown Magistrate Court convicted Siyabonga Gwala and Jabulani Xaba on Thursday 15 August to fifteen years imprisonment each for house robbery and three years each for possession of property suspected to be stolen.

The conviction comes after Mark Checkley was robbed at gunpoint by Gwala, Xaba and a third suspect at his Botha’s Hill home in January 2011. The men stole electrical appliances, cellphones and a vehicle which valued at R120 000.

Mark reported the case and it led to the arrest of the two men and recovery of the stolen property.

Station commander Colonel Thandeka Mbele commended investigating officer, Detective Constable Mdumiseni Bekwa for his diligent work on the successful conviction.
