Kloof school to open remedial unit

Kloof Senior Primary School is looking forward to unveiling its new remedial unit next year.

KLOOF Senior Primary School is currently midway through constructing its remedial unit, a first in the Kloof area.

Karen Leppan, the head of department at the school sent through a proposal in December last year to the Albert Wessels’ Trust to receive funding to build the unit.

“In April I received the phone call to let us know that the school had received the R1.3 million grant. It was terribly exciting news,” said Karen.

The unit will consist of four classrooms, from Grade 4 to Grade 7, two therapists rooms and a secretary’s office. The current support classes will undergo the necessary transformations to comply with remedial class requirements.

“There will be 15 children per class, per Grade, with a maximum of 60 children. Grade 4 is currently at capacity but there are still places available from Grade 5 to 7.

“The reason I applied for the grant was because there is a need for a remedial until in the area and the pupils need a supportive, nurturing environment with and individualised educational programme,” said Karen.

The remedial unit is due to open in January next year.
