Book worm triumphs at library contest

Book worms from local schools went head to head at the District 9 Quiz hosted by the New Germany Public Library

THE New Germany Public Library hosted the eThekwini Municipal Library District 9 Quiz Contest on 7 August.

Nine municipal libraries participated, and each library was represented by a learner from a local school.

Clermont Library was represented by Ntobeko Hlongwa of Udumo Primary, Westville North Library by Yashtha Sapry of Star College, Nirvana Hills Library by Senika Moodley of Northdene Primary, Motala Heights Library by Kimone Naidoo of Motala Heights Primary, New Germany Library by Uluthando Jili of New Germany Primary, Mpola Library by Slindokuhle Gumede of Motala Heights Primary, Tshelimnyama Library by Philwokuhle Ntshangase of Jubilee Senior Primary, and Mariannridge Library by Kwanele Lembede of Mariannridge Primary.

Learners were given two fiction and one non-fiction book to read and were quizzed on the contents of the books. There were also general knowledge questions that related to current news and affairs. Indrani Naicker was the quizmistress and Nalini Chetty was the chief adjudicator. District manager Phindiwe Mbizafa presented the certificates and trophies.

The winner of the District 9 Quiz was the Westville Municipal Library, represented by Daniel Phillips of Westville Senior Primary School. Daniel will now go forward to represent Westville Municipal Library at the Inter-District final which will be held on 5 September at the Durban Natural Science Museum.

The contestants at this level are required to answer questions on four prescribed books. General knowledge questions will be asked again as well.
