Christ’s ultimate sacrifice remembered

Christ's journey with the cross was re-enacted by members of the Durban Catholic Players' Guild on Palm Sunday.

MANY people gathered at the Church of the Monastery in Mariannhill to watch the Stations of the Cross presented by the Durban Catholic Players’ Guild.

The production re-enacted the events from the time Jesus was condemned by Pontius Pilate until he died and was buried.

In preparation for the Easter celebrations, Christians traditionally meditate on the events leading up to the resurrection by observing the Way of the Cross (also called Stations of the Cross).

Actors performed scenes and the choir from the Pinetown Catholic Church lead the singing.

The Durban Catholic Players’ Guild is a Christian, amateur dramatic society committed to bringing the message of Christ’s Salvation to life by staging the Durban Passion Play every five years.

The celebration of the Way of the Cross was the first annual event staged by the Guild. Carols by Candlelight is staged in December.
