SOUTH Africa’s golden boy, Chad Le Clos, launched his first book, Unbelievable!, at Westville Boys’ High School last Tuesday evening.
Highway residents flocked to the school’s hall to catch a glimpse of the local hero and to grab a copy of his book, which was penned by Myan Subrayan.
“It is a motivational book about family values and perseverance, highlighting his emotional intelligence and integrity. It also shows how fame and his multiple medals haven’t changed him as a person. He realises that there are no short cuts and in the book, shows us that a positive attitude enabled him to tackle life’s challenges,” said Trevor Hall, the principal of Westville Boys’ High School.
According to the writer, Myan, what initially captivated him, and the millions of people around the world, was Chad’s father. “It was seeing a father rooting for his son and that was a huge inspiration for me. The book doesn’t just cover what Chad achieved but what the family had gone through and we find that great sacrifice precedes great results,” said Myan.
Chad, flanked by his father Bert and Myan, clutched the microphone nervously as more than one hundred guests peered on, but he answered questions with an air of confidence and humility. “I’m the type of person that if someone tells me I can’t do something, I will do everything in my power to prove them wrong,” said Chad. “I have to thank my family as they have kept me grounded and taught me to always give my best.”

Once the formalities were complete, Chad hosted a book signing and photograph session inside the newly revamped foyer. The book, Unbelievable!, is available from R175 at all leading book outlets.
