Bring the scent of spring into your home

Whether you live in a complex in the suburbs, a flat overlooking the city or beach, or a large country home, there is no reason why you can't have elements of spring fragrances in your home.

Room sprays
Room sprays that conjure up fields of lavender or weekends in an orchard can easily be made at home using a few simple ingredients and you can make your own special room sprays using essential oils and water. It doesn't even have to be distilled water or anything fancy, although if you would like to boil the water first, it might make the spray not last as long due to the chemicals in the water being removed, but if the spray is good that shouldn't be a problem.

Essential oils
Single scents can be made with single oils, for example pure lavender, rose even geranium. Or you can use ready mixed essential oil blends, or mix your own blend of scents using your favourite essential oils. Bear in mind that some mix better with others, you can get advice from the internet, or experiment yourself until you find the scent that works best for you.

How to may your own room spray
Work on a 100 drops per 100ml of water ratio to determine how many drops to use based on the volume of the spray bottle you have chosen to use. If you are using a blend of oils, split them up to make the total drops equal the right amount for the water you are using, and add less of the stronger scents, and more of the scents you want as a base sent to be most noticeable in the end spray.

To make the spray, fill the bottle with water, then add the oils using a dropper. Put the cap on and gently shake the bottle to mix the oils in with the water. Shake the bottle each time you use it to keep the spray mixed, then just spray the fragrant mist into the air.

Glass bottles are nice, but good well sealing plastic spray bottles also work very well. When buying your bottles try to find ones that make the finest mist spray as those that create the smallest droplets of your scent will do the best job. You can also keep and use the essential oils to add to oil burners at night.
