Fitness fundi’s collect blankets for charity

Fitness challenge collects 250 blankets for the Hearts to Hands Foundation.

FITNESS fanatics collected 250 blankets in the Fitcampathon Winter Warmth blanket drive at the SSS Gym at Westville Village Market on Saturday.

The Fitcampathon for winter warmth is a six-hour group training event where about 250 entrants participate in an attempt to raise blankets for underprivileged communities reached by Heart to Hands. The goal of the Fitcampathon was to raise an excess of 500 blanket in six hours. The hourly slots started at 7am and ran until 1pm.

According to Rachel Engelbrecht, relief services manager of Hearts to Hands, each participant received a goodie bag for their donation of a blanket.

Hearts to Hands is a poverty relief services department within CAST. Its goal is to uplift poorer communities in the city and facilitating the journey where they are restored out of a place of hopelessness and despair to faith, dignity and self-worth. Poverty relief services includes food parcels monthly and clothing and blankets.

Two fitcampers, Josephine Slater (62) and Angie Chislett participated in the six-hour challenge non-stop and challenged the community to donate a blanket for every hour they completed.

The Fitcampathon was sponsored by SSS Gym, Ninos group, Pick n Pay Westville, Haircraft, Stanleys Stationers, Dr Kissoon, Positive Energy drink, BP garage Westville, Harley Davidson Durban and the Village Market Mall.
