As a qualified Yoga teacher, personal organiser and professional thrifter, De Sylva assists individuals and families around Durban in decluttering and organising their spaces through her business, Claire’s Concept. “What began as a side hustle in 2019 has evolved into a full-time passion for furniture, organising, upcycling and the joy of thrifting,” she explained.

To start your decluttering journey, Claire provides ways to identify when it is time to let things go. Items should be let go when they:

– collect dust
– are damaged
– no longer spark joy

– haven’t been used in six months to a year
– make you feel guilty, (eg, unwanted gifts or purchases)

She also suggests pretending you’re moving and asking yourself if an item is worth packing. If not, let it go.
