5-year-old and two women rescued from captivity in Wyebank

A paralysed victim was found kidnapped in a shack in Wyebank along with a 5-year-old child and another woman.

A SUSPECT is set to appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on kidnapping charges after a five-year-old child and two victims, one of whom is paralysed, were found being held captive in a Wyebank shack on Friday, August 23.

According to Pinetown Police Station communications officer Jennifer Naidu, “The warrant officer received information about a person being held captive. He activated his members and external role players, mobilising them to the given location.

“Upon arriving at the scene, officers identified an outside shack room and approached it. A male (suspect) inside the room closed the door, but members penetrated the room to find two females and a five-year-old child,” Naidu explained.

The suspect was found with a firearm and eight live rounds. “The main house was also breached, and inside, a further suspect and two more firearms were recovered. The other suspect was laid off as there was not enough evidence for him to be arrested,” she added.

Medical assistance was summoned as one of the victims was paralysed from a previous accident.

Naidu said that during interviews with the women found in the shack, it was discovered that they were kidnapped in the morning from Wyebank and held at gunpoint. “While the victims were kidnapped, the other suspects went to withdraw money from their account as the victim had received a large payout from the Road Accident Fund (RAF),” she said.

The victims were safely reunited with their families, and the suspect is set to appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 26.
