Speaking on their journey towards marriage, the couple said they started going out and discussed the possibility of building a relationship.
“We initially had different ideas because I was not planning on entering into a long-term relationship, but he wanted that. I eventually realised that it was better that we carry on,” said Muriel.
“As we spent more time together, things developed, and the next step was for us to get married,” said Ken.

The couple raised three children together and have four grandchildren – something they say is one of the greatest achievements of their union.

“We have children who are doing well – no one is a lawbreaker or anything like that – the same goes for our grandchildren. We might have done something right, and to us, that is an achievement – bringing up children you can pass things on to,” they said.

When asked about what they appreciate about each other’s personalities, Muriel said she appreciates her husband’s honesty, strength and his wisdom.
“He’s got an amazing brain – like a photographic memory. He is very clever, and I use him as my encyclopaedia,” she said, chuckling.
Ken said he appreciates his wife’s ability to interact with people as he is not a social or outspoken person.
The couple said that keeping their individuality in the relationship is one of the things that has worked for them.

“It is old-fashioned to say you have to become one person – you become an individual and stay that individual, and that’s what worked for us. It is important for you to pull your weight in the relationship for it to be a joint effort,” they said.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with friends and family in a party they hosted at their house.
