Reconstructing Gillitts Primary School

More sponsors join Gillitts Primary School as they embark on the journey of upgrading and rebuilding the school premises.

THE Kloof Country Club Ladies Golfers recently raised a whopping R57 000 for Gillitts Primary School. The donation, handed over on Friday, July 26, was raised when the ladies hosted their annual charity golf day.

Speaking on the day of the celebration, Louise Nolden of the Kloof Country Club Ladies Golfers, said she was introduced to the school when one of the lady golfers was looking for a school for her helper’s granddaughter. According to Nolden, the school was a perfect match for their charity beneficiary.

“Around that same time, our charity committee was given a task to select an organisation in the Highway area that would be a worthy beneficiary of the proceeds of our charity. This school came to our mind, and upon visiting the school and meeting Ms Jardoo, I knew I did not need to look any further.

“The school was so impressive with dedicated teachers managing 56 children in classes all with smiles on their faces. I was made aware of their recent and ongoing renovations, and we learnt that there was a great need for new cupboards and shelves. It was decided that the money raised through our golf day would make this possible. We are greatly pleased that we have an amount of R57 000. It is, indeed, a fact that every single one of us was afforded an education, and we believe it is the right of every person in our country to be educated,” she said.

In further support of the Kloof Country Ladies Golf charity golf day, Oxford Freshmarket CEO Brett Latimer made a contribution of R43 000 towards this cause and a weekly donation of fresh produce to supplement the school’s feeding scheme.

Jardoo expressed her gratitude, saying no words could aptly describe how appreciative they are as they continue to rebuild the school.
