Fully loaded taxi rolls in Shongweni, injuring 16

The patients were transported to various Durban hospitals after they were stabilised on scene by several ambulance services.

SIXTEEN people sustained various injuries, ranging from moderate to serious, after a serious taxi accident in Shongweni Main Road towards Hammarsdale this morning (June 13).

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, the paramedics arrived to find a multiple casualty scene after the driver of a fully loaded taxi had somehow lost control and the taxi rolled numerous times, coming to rest on its roof.

Jamieson said more ambulances were dispatched to assist.

“Together with the eThekwini Fire Department, a triage was done, and it was found that 16 people had sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to serious.

“Multiple ambulance services worked together to stabilise all of the injured on the scene before transporting all of the injured to various Durban hospitals.”

Jamieson added that SAPS will be investigating further as the cause of the accident is unknown at the moment.
