Watch: Pinetown church embarks on peaceful walk

More than 200 people supported the peaceful walk to uplift the community.

A PEACEFUL walk and prayer to promote harmony, uplift the community and spread love was joined by more than 200 people in Pinetown on Sunday (April 14).

The walk was organised by the Pinetown Full Gospel Church and its church members, along with community and police officers, including metro police and the Pinetown and Hillcrest SAPS.

Sheldon Moonusamy from the church said that Pinetown is faced with many challenges.

“There is crime, and people do not feel safe walking in the Pinetown streets. There are homeless people, and many people are struggling. The aim of the walk was to show people that we are there and we care.

“Our church is in the heart of the community, so it should be the light of the community. ”

Besides church services, the church is involved with lots of community programmes.

“We have a feeding scheme, offer counselling and we have men and women upliftment programmes and youth development programmes,” he said.

Along the routes, the crowds stopped and prayed and gave uplifting talks.

Moonusamy thanked the church pastor, Rodney Sneddon, for his guidance.

“I would also like to convey our gratitude to the police members who came out to support this walk and guide us along the route. We informed them on Friday, but they were more than willing to assist. We are really thankful to them.”

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
