More murals painted at the Kloof Bench

Celebrating 75 years of our existence, the Highway Mail celebrates reporting on community projects such as the Kloof Project.

BEING at the forefront of local news for over 75 years now, The Highway Mail has been fortunate to have been reporting about the Kloof Bench among many other community projects. In 2019, The Kloof Project, a non-profit organisation, was given permission by the eThekwini Municipality to have creative space under the Elizabeth Bridge in Kloof.

The art mural called the Kloof Bench was created – open to the community to make their mark with their art brushes.

Two years ago, The Kloof Project was granted permission by the eThekwini Municipality to brighten up the space with beautiful art murals.

In the process of preparing the space to be brightened up, The Kloof Project staff prepared and painted the grey base walls for the artists.

The various professional artists were introduced to the zone by Giffy – a well-known artist in Durban – and each one freely gave of their time to create the murals.

A few years ago, The 1000 Hills Tourism Association formally recognised the space as worthy of inclusion in their list of Day Trip Ideas for visitors in the Upper Highway area. Until this year, new art pieces are still being painted, making it an aesthetically pleasing site for patrons.
