Become a hero and run for HACT

THE Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust (HACT) is calling on the public to support them by running for them at this year’s Comrades Marathon. HACT has been a CMA official charity since 2017, and funds raised go towards keeping its Othandweni (Place of Love) 24-bed Hospice and Palliative Care In-Patient Unit open.

Explaining the function of this unit, HACT CEO Candace Davidson said the unit provides around-the-clock nursing care for adults and children with advanced stages of cancer and/or AIDS.

“In a tight economic climate of reduced funding and with other hospices closing, HACT’s Comrades campaign has literally kept its doors and services open and available to those most vulnerable,” she said.

HACT extended their gratitude to the members who have been supporting them for the past few years.

“The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has established an easy and efficient means for runners to have an even greater impact. With lots of heart from dedicated runners, the Amabeadibeadi Comrades Charity Campaign has managed to raise R71 million since 1996 and was just shy of R5 million in 2023 for the official CMA charities,” she said.

1. Select HACT as your chosen charity on your Comrades 2024 profile – it’s free.
2. You will receive an official Easyreg link to start your campaign.
3. You will be contacted by HACT via email to join the HACT #RUN4HACT community tribe.
4. There is no minimum amount required – every cent counts.

5. Raise R1 000 and you get a free limited edition shirt and goodie bag.
6. C Batch seeding (As an added benefit) – if you need a little extra help to get over that start line earlier on race day, just raise R6 000 or more to qualify.
