Public warned of police recruitment scam

Pinetown SAPS reminds job seekers of their application process so they are aware of how to avoid scams.

THE recruitment process for the South African Police Services is currently underway, and the Pinetown Police Station would like to make members of the community aware of the process when applying.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu said successful applicants will go through a process of tests which are: screening of applications, a psychometric test, a physical fitness test, an interview and a medical test.

“The community is urged to not fall victim [to scams] where they are forced to pay an amount in order to be recruited within the South African Police Service – no persons can make a promise to secure a job,” said Naidu.

With a shortage of jobs, scammers take advantage of desperate job seekers trying to be recruited as police officers.
“Police have noticed that during the first and the last phases of recruitment, criminals have thought up new ways of sourcing money from job seekers,” said Naidu.

She urged victims to contact their local police station and report such cases. The public can also contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
