Raising funds for Fulton School Library

The Highway community joined forces to help Fulton School raise funds for their school library.

LOCAL talents were happy to participate in a talent show for a good cause, hosted by Kloof Rotary Ann’s Club at Fulton School for the Deaf. Held recently at the Fulton School hall, the community was treated to entertainment by local artists. The fundraising initiative was to help the school raise funds for their much-needed library.

Speaking on the day, the school’s principal, Odette Swift, acknowledged with appreciation the fundraising initiative.

“We have been accustomed to having everything digital, but we really want a space where our children are excited to read books. A lot of books have been donated at this stage, but we do not have space for the books, so we are wanting to do a complete revamp. We are hoping to get a space that inspires our children to read,” she said.

Performing on the show were vibrant Celtic dancers, straight from Shall we Dance; St Mary’s gold medal choir; concert pianist Kalinka Pitt; Fulton School for the Deaf signing choir; Melvin Peter’s Jazz Quartet; Durban’s Singing Waiter, Sabelo Ngcobo; Shannon Kenny, international singer; top musical students from Northwood Boys’ High School, and top guitarist Alan Judd.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, Singing Waiter Sabelo Ngcobo said he was more than happy to contribute to this initiative using his singing talent. “When I was approached for this show, I did not even think twice about participating. I enjoy singing for the Westville community, and this was just one of those enjoyable moments of serving through my talent,” said Ngcobo.

The Rotary Club explained that each ticket bought for the show contributed to the building material, but more money is still needed to complete the project. The community can reach out to the Kloof Rotary Ann’s Club on their social media pages.
