The Democratic Alliance described Pearl Msomi as a person who was dedicated to the party and to her community.

THE Democratic Alliance (DA) has offered its condolences to the family and friends of councillor Pearl Msomi, who passed away on Sunday following a short illness.

The 39-year-old, who was born in Molweni, was elected as the Ward 9 councillor in 2021 municipal elections taking over from ANC councillor, Patrick Mncube.

When she was elected Msomi had said she wanted to bring development to her community.

One of her dreams was to build a library in the Molweni community as she knew the challenges first-hand having attended Dinabakubo Combined School in the area.

Francois Rodgers, member of parliament and DA KZN leader said the party was saddened by her passing

“We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.”

Rodgers described Msomi as someone who was dedicated to the party and to her community.

“She had ensured that the party was able to win Ward 9 from the ANC during the 2021 elections. Since winning the ward Pearl and her family have had to endure threats and indeed a violent attack on her home, yet she remained resolute to the cause, a remarkable sign of her strength and commitment,” he said.

eThekwini Mayor, councillor Mxolisi Kaunda also conveyed condolences to Msomi’s family and to the Democratic Alliance.

Kaunda said Msomi always conducted herself with respect and displayed a great sense of commitment and professionalism in her work as a public representative.

“We hope Councillor Msomi’s family will find comfort knowing that we are with them during this time of mourning. In addition, we want to express our heartfelt sympathy to her party, the Democratic Alliance for their loss,” said Kaunda.
