4 arrested for robbing a bed and breakfast in Bellair

The suspects were arrested in Cato Manor and were found with various items, including items belonging to the police.

FOUR suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court for business robbery and possession of property suspected to be stolen.

The suspects, between the ages of 27 and 47, were arrested after robbing a local Bed and Breakfast in Bellair.

Bellair SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer Pam Pillay said that during the early hours of the morning of Thursday, July 20, the suspects entered the B&B on the pretence of booking accommodation for the night.

“One of the suspects distracted an attendant by accompanying him to view the place while the other suspects entered. The occupants were robbed of their personal belongings, cellphones and other items.

“Swift reaction from the Bellair Sector Team and station commander resulted in the arrest of four suspects in the Cato Manor area. Various cellphones and other items, which were taken during the business robbery, were found in the possession of these suspects,” said Pillay.

Pillay reported that among those items were two pistols, as well as other items belonging to the South African Police Service.

“One of the suspects was in possession of a fake police identification card which is believed to have been used during other robberies where police officers were being impersonated.

“Bellair police encourage those who may have been robbed by an alleged police officer to come forward and report the case,” she said.

Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Braveman Dladla expressed his sincere appreciation for the efforts of the members in going beyond the call of duty in pursuing these suspects.

“Crimes at business premises and crimes where firearms are being used, are the station’s prevalent crimes currently, and it is encouraging to note that these crimes are given priority, with immediate investigation and success, in an attempt to eradicate them.

“It is encouraging to note that at least two more illegal firearms are off the streets.”
