Cowies Hill Lions Club donates a wheelchair
More donations are needed as the Cowies Hill Lions Club aids more help to the community.
THE Cowies Hill Lions Club is grateful to have aided help to at least one person after numerous requests. The club has donated a wheelchair to a member of the Quadpara Association of KZN.
The club reported that the request came through one of their members. Recently, when Rebecca Bullough, one of the members of Cowies Hill Lions Club, was entering the supermarket at the Danish Centre in Gillitts, she was stopped by Colin Chetty from the Quadpara Association of KZN, who is one of the regular food collectors at the centre.

Chetty is wheelchair-bound, and he asked whether the Lions could assist him to get another wheelchair as his very old chair had become irreparable. The Lions agreed to answer his plea, and as they had recently been donated a ‘brand new’ wheelchair, this was offered to Chetty.
They said they discovered that upon inspection, the chair was old and needed repairs which would have cost more than the value of the chair.
“So an alternative needed to be found as he had been promised a replacement. Bullough mentioned the problem to her neighbours who were busy clearing out a deceased estate, and they offered to sell the Lions an unused wheelchair. This was accepted and handed over to a delighted Chetty,” they said.

The Lions said they frequently get requests for wheelchairs and other mobility aids and will gladly accept donations of items in good repair, which may be loaned or given to those in need. The public is welcome to make a contribution and are to contact Lion Rebecca Bullough on 072 435 5031 for arrangements to be made to receive or collect the items.
