Friday, June 16 until Sunday, June 18
The Durban Theatre community is excited to announce the inaugural family-friendly 031 Theatre Festival at the new Bridge Theatre at Northlands Primary School in Durban North from Friday, June 16 to Sunday, June 18.
The theatre festival has been spearheaded by Aaron Mcilroy (MACBOB Productions) and Michael Broderick (Theatresmiths) and will feature various productions that are being performed at this year’s National Arts Festival in Makhanda/Grahamstown. The festival has been carefully curated to ensure that there is something for every theatre lover of every age.
All shows take place at 12:00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and tickets are R100 (excluding booking fee) and are available through Webtickets. There is secure parking available and refreshments and snacks on sale.
Saturday, June 17
THE North Durban Honorary Officers will host their next open morning on Saturday, June 17 at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve.
According to honorary officer Brian High, gates open from 08:00 until 13:00. Visitors can choose to be on a guided walk or a self-walk through the reserve. The last guided walk through the reserve leaves at 11:30. There is also a bird walk, which starts at 08:15 sharp. Bookings for this bird walk can be made via the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve Facebook page.
Sunday, June 18
Take the perfect autumn outing on a vintage steam train through the rolling 1000 Hills for Father’s Day, leaving from Inchanga Station (1 Station Road). Trains will be running at 08:30/11:00/13:30, and bookings are now open. Wesley, the vintage loco, is back, on track and rearing to go – after a maintenance and service period. The Inchanga Craft Market will be in full swing with dozens of stalls offering family-friendly locally-sourced fare. There is also a food garden offering a range of light meals and snacks, a play area and a picnic site. The Inchanga Railway Museum will be open for tours, as will the model railway. There will be a KZN Youth Orchestra Father’s Day Concert at Durban Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 18 at 11:00.
The orchestra is comprised of 70 young musicians from all around KZN. The hour-long concert will be an exciting one with music encompassing a variety of genres. There will be pieces from the Romantic period and movies, and musicals, and it is excellent family entertainment.

The ninth International Day of Yoga takes place at the Durban Beachfront Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 18 from 08:00 to 11:00.
The local organising committee have arranged for hundreds of volunteers to be on duty, as crowd marshals, support crew and private security aides, to ensure proper and orderly coordination – in the spirit of yoga – and for safety and security for a new record turn-out expected to exceed last year’s 2 500 men, women and children.
