Elderly woman in serious condition after she was shot outside a school in Westville

It is alleged that a man believed to be the victim's husband attempted to drive over her before shooting her.

A WOMAN in her sixties was rushed to hospital in a serious condition after she was shot, allegedly by her husband, this afternoon.

Kyle van Reenen of Emer-G-Med paramedics said they, together with ALS Paramedic Services and Mobi Claw, responded to the scene of a shooting incident outside a primary school in Westville.

“On arrival on scene, an adult female was found with serious injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise her before she was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital,” he said.

According to Van Reenen, reports from the scene indicate that a man believed to be her husband, first attempted to run her over with a light motor vehicle, before crashing into a precast concrete fence.

“He then came out from his vehicle, drew a pistol and fired several shots at her, striking her, before fleeing the scene.”

He added that the South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation.
