Westville couple bowls over competition

Lindsay and Delia North, won their respective singles championship matches in the annual Westville Country Club Bowling Club finals.

HISTORY was made on Wednesday, April 19 at the Westville Country Club Bowling Club when husband and wife, Lindsay and Delia North, won their respective singles championship matches in the annual club finals.

Their matches were closely contested by their opponents in the singles finals: Peter Garrett and Penny Krauspe.

The club believes that it was the first time in the history of the WCC bowling club that a husband and wife have won the singles titles in the same year.

Lindsay started playing when he retired in October 2020, and Delia started playing a year later, in 2021.

Although both players are Novices (having played for less than three years), they often practise together in the late afternoons and have thoroughly enjoyed the comraderie and friendship shown by their fellow players at the club, as well as the coaching and advice from the more experienced players.

Lindsay and Delia said they have played competitive tennis for the past fifty five years, from when they first met at the Fynnlands Tennis Club at the age of ten and nine years old respectively and they continue to enjoy playing sport together at the Westville Tennis Club and the WCC Bowling Club.

“Bowls has now added a different perspective to our lives, and we are thoroughly enjoying it,” said Lindsay.
