Support Fulton School for the Deaf fundraiser

This is the school's biggest fundraiser for the year and everyone is welcome to join in the fun.

FULTON School for the Deaf is excited to host its Annual Fun Day on Saturday, March 4, from 09:00 to 14:00, and invites the public to come and support them on the day.

Fulton’s Simi Sivasanker said this is their biggest fundraiser for the year and everyone is welcome.

“The more the merrier.”

There are early bird tickets which cost R200, and kids can gain entrance to play on the great variety of inflatables for the whole day. Tickets will cost R250 on the day. There will also be an option to buy a ticket on the day for R50 to gain entry to the inflatables for an hour.

“We will definitely have something for everyone – there will be lots of food, sweet treats, educational books and toys,” she said.

She also invited people to hire a stall.

The school is situated in Gillitts, and according to Sivasanker, it is one of only eight schools catering specifically for Deaf children in the province.

“Fulton was the first school for the Deaf in KZN, and we have provided specialised education to deaf learners since 1959. The school offers classes and residential facilities that cater for children from the age of three through to Grade 12.”

She said, as a school, they believe that there is a need to create awareness about the Deaf community.

“Many people do not know about the school – we have a hostel facility where we provide accommodation for learners who are deaf and hard of hearing from various parts of the province. We even have a few learners from the Eastern Cape.”

She added that Fulton has a long, proud history of producing leaders in the deaf community and seeks to partner with individuals, companies and organisations who share their vision ‘to be leaders in bilingual South African Sign Language/English education from infancy to graduation, removing barriers for every deaf child, building knowledge, independence and leadership so that they are equipped to succeed’.
