IEB matric results: Distinction day at Kearsney College

The Upper Highway school was the top achieving boys’ school in KwaZulu-Natal.

KEARSNEY College is celebrating being the top achieving boys’ school in KwaZulu-Natal following the release of the 2022 Independent Examinations Board results this week.

John Eastes made the IEB’s outstanding achievement list for being in the top 5% in six or more subjects, and Fynn Pollock and Benjamin Burton were on the IEB’s commendable achievement list for making the top 5% in five subjects.

Four boys each achieved eight distinctions – John Eastes, Fynn Pollock, Javashkaar Naidoo and Owen Payne. Benjamin Burton and Javhar Naidoo each received seven distinctions.

The school’s reputation for academic excellence was endorsed by news that a quarter of Kearsney boys achieved four or more distinctions and over a quarter of boys achieved an A aggregate. Almost 60% of boys achieved an A or B aggregate.

There was a 100% pass rate, with 98% achieving a university exemption pass.

Kearsney’s Maths and Science programme again delivered with 46% of Kearsney boys achieving distinctions in Mathematics (IEB average is 26%) and in Physical Sciences 37% (IEB rate is 18%). It’s the 12th consecutive year that Kearsney’s Mathematics and Science distinction rates have been approximately double those of the IEB.

Headmaster Patrick Lees said he was delighted with the fantastic results.

“Kearsney’s number one priority is academic excellence, and we are delighted that five years of hard work from the boys, educators and parents have paid off.”
