Cobra spits at Westville cat

The cat is experiencing temporary pain and is being treated by its owners.

A CAT that spotted a Mozambique Spitting Cobra in a courtyard was chased away by the snake, which spat in its eyes.

Snake catcher Nick Evans said the meter-long Mozambique Spitting Cobra was at a home in Westville bordering the Palmiet Nature Reserve earlier today, Tuesday, January 3.

“The snake was in the courtyard when the cat approached it. It spat in the cat’s eyes, chasing it off, before taking cover in the garage,” said Evans.

Evans found the cobra under a shelf in the garage.

“It was a quick and easy catch. The owners are used to treating their pets that have been spat at, so the cat will be fine – just in temporary pain,” assured Evans.

He advised that a thorough rinse with water does the trick – or a trip to the vet for the same sort of procedure.
