A dress-up day for dogs

It was a successful fundraiser for Serendipitty as they hosted a dress-up day for dogs.

IT was a funfest for dog owners and their dogs as Serendipitty hosted their fundraiser event in Westville on Sunday, 18 December. The day saw dog owners and their dressed-up pups as they were gunning for the best-dressed title. An opportunity was also given to small businesses who had their stalls set up during the day.

Nicole Jack of the organisation said the fundraiser was to raise much-needed funding for Serendipitty Rescue.
“We pay towards vet bills, which are never-ending. And kennel fees for the dogs we have in kennels. The aim is to create awareness while trying to get some of our adoptables to meet potential families and to help us raise funds,” she said.

Jack said the event was a success considering the planning that went to it.

“Planning the fundraiser, we first look for a venue that’s dog-friendly and will allow us to host our event there. We organise entertainment. We had had an incredible singer at our last two events: Angie. All of my amazing volunteers are always up for helping. We have volunteer shirts made for them, so at any stage, anyone needing help is able to approach them.

“We put the word out for vendors that would like to trade with us, and we try to get sponsors for prizes and goodie bags. A regular sponsor for our goodie bags is Regal Pet Health which we use on all of our dogs at the kennels and in foster. We had some incredible prizes sponsored for this event, including prizes sponsored from previous adopters,” she explained.

The prize for best-dressed went to Toby who is a baby to Carlyn Kim Berry-Hatting. The runner-up was last year’s winner.
Jack extended her gratitude for the community that made it through and the volunteers whose hands were on deck to make the day a success.

“We have some incredible supporters and some amazing volunteers, and honestly, without them, we wouldn’t be able to do this. We had a wonderful day. We had such an awesome venue. The staff and the owner of the German club were mind-blowing. They could not do enough to help us and look after our guests. We were very blessed with some supporters coming from as far as Pietermaritzburg and Amanzimtoti to support us,” said Jack.
