Inchanga police officer back in court

A police officer who is charged with the murder of his wife pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A POLICE officer who is accused of killing his wife denied the charges against him, saying his wife was killed by an intruder. Mthokozisi Nene said this in a court room of the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court where he appeared recently.

In June this year, the KZN police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiwe Ngcobo, reported that Nene was arrested at his home in Inchanga after they had received a murder complaint.

“The police proceeded to the scene, and on arrival, they were shown the body of a 41-year-old woman with a gunshot wound on the forehead,” she said.
The community of Ntshanga gathered outside the court to picket, calling for harsher sentencing. They wore T-shirts that were printed with the face of the deceased, Thobeka MaMsomi Nene; they were joined by a group of social workers and activists fighting against gender-based violence.

According to the Department of Social Development that was in attendance at the case, Nene arrived in court, appearing relaxed. “Nene denied that he killed his wife, claiming that an unknown assailant entered their home in Ntshanga while he was lying on the bed and heard a gun sound. Upon inspection, he saw his wife lying on the ground in the pool of blood near the garage,” stated the department.
