NOTICE OF A BASIC ASSESSMENT FOR THE WASTE MANAGEMENT LICENSE APPLICATION OF THE PROPOSED PFE INTERNATIONAL INC WASTE TYRE MANAGEMENT FACILITY IN HAMMARSDALE, KWAZULU-NATAL PROVINCE

Notice is hereby given in terms of the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 2008 (Act 59 of 2008), as amended and the Environmental Impact Assessments Regulations, 2014, as amended.

Project Name: Basic Assessment for the Waste Management License Application of the Proposed PFE International Inc Waste Tyre Management Facility in Hammarsdale, Kwa-Zulu Natal Province

Project Applicant:  PFE international (Pty) Ltd

Project Location: The depot is situated at 11 Buckman Boulevard in Hammarsdale, within the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality.

Proposed Activity:  The PFE international (Pty) Ltd is International is proposing the replacement of its current equipment and infrastructure with newer technologies, in order to meet the demand of their waste tyre recycling operations. The aim of the project is to enable the applicant to handle the additional processing and recycling capacity and meet current and future demand for processed waste tyres. The application will be lodged with the KwaZulu-Natal Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (KZN EDTEA) as the Competent Authority.

PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Thembeka Environmental Consulting (Pty) Ltd has been appointed as the Independent Environmental Consultants to conduct the public consultation, compilation of the Basic Assessment Report (BAR) and Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) as part of the environmental impact assessment process.  All interested & affected parties (I&APs) are invited to participate in this proposed project by forwarding comments or concerns relating to the project to Thembeka Environmental. To register as an I&AP please submit your name and contact details and your comments in writing to the Consultants by 12 November 2022. A background information document (BID) can be obtained from Thembeka Environmental upon request.  The Draft BAR and EMPr are available for commenting for a period of 30 days (12 October to 12 November 2022).
