Support group heals through sharing

St Agnes Anglican church in Kloof is set to host their grief share programme that will help people grieve their loved ones.

THE St Agnes Anglican church is reaching out for the well-being of the community as they continue with their GriefShare programme, set to start on August 20. The programme is facilitated by individuals who have benefited through the programme during their time of grief.

Reverend Sizwe Ngcobo of the church described the programme as a safe space inspired by confidentiality and a non-threatening opportunity to be around people who understand.

“The series is offered in the context of a support group. It features teaching that is Bible-based and focuses on grief topics associated with the death of a loved one. In the group, a short video is viewed, featuring respected grief experts and real-life stories, followed by a group discussion about what was viewed,” said Ngcobo.

Furthermore, Ngcobo said the participants are given guidance on how to recognize the symptoms of being stuck in one’s grief and encouragement to enable moving forward with renewed hope.
The programme also continues for the participants during their alone time, and they come back to discuss their progress.

“Each participant also has a very comprehensive and helpful workbook which links with the seminar contents. GriefShare participants have related how helpful the information and follow-up discussions are to them. For many who are desperate when they first arrive, GriefShare helps to provide a real lifeline,” he said.

Ngcobo emphasised that the programme is not limited to the church community but to the wider community – he extended the invite to everyone who is in need of the programme.
GriefShare will be starting at St Agnes Church, Abelia Road, Kloof on Saturday August 20. It will be held from 09:00 to 11:00 in the Reading Room located in the red-brick building. For more information or to register, call the church office on 031 764 2037 or email lyle@stagnes.org.za.
