They get their hands dirty to keep Kloof beautiful
Members of the Kloof Project gathered on Saturday for their street sign clean-up project.
PREVIOUSLY known as the Keep Kloof Beautiful Association, the organisation has been up and running, cleaning the area, from picking up litter to creating gardens through their adopt-a-spot initiative.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, Sandra Wickee of the Kloof Project said they are a group of 10 to 12 residents who are determined to improve the aesthetics of the area. “In terms of improving and maintaining all the gardens, we report infrastructure issues, and we just participate in anything that can beautify Kloof,” she said.
Wickee said the street sign cleaning is an addition to their continued work. “You would be amazed at how dirty the signs get from pollution and general dust. With them being cleaned, it makes you love to look around when you drive around – it gives sparkle. It’s part of creating a pleasant ambiance to our area.”

In addition to the clean-up on Saturday, people had an option to clean the signs that are on their residential streets at any time.
Furthermore, the organisation has ongoing projects that allow businesses in the area to adopt a spot.
“We get sponsorship through these businesses as they pay for the spots. We use that money to facilitate our projects and pay for our gardeners and the people who help us pick up litter every day,” said Wickee.
The Kloof Project accepts donations through their zapper code on the adopted spots; they are also welcoming any members who want to become part of keeping their area beautiful.
