WATCH: Our papers are not being dumped

The contractor strategically drops off these bundles of papers along his route for the runner to collect and distribute.

THE distribution department at Caxton Community Newspapers has been inundated with calls pertaining to the dumping of papers, however, this is not the case.

Dhinesh Harilal, distribution manager for Caxton Local Media, says that the contractor strategically drops off these bundles of papers along his route for the runner to collect and distribute. The bundles are placed into plastic bags for protection against the elements, therefore, please do not open the bag to take a copy of the paper. If you have a postbox or tube, a copy of the paper will be delivered to your home.

“The runner is dropped off at the top of the street with one bundle of paper. While that is being placed into postboxes and tubes, the driver then continues to drop off more bundles along the same road. Eventually, the runner catches up to these bundles and continues with the door-to-door deliveries,” said Harilal.

“The reason for this is that the runner cannot carry multiple bundles of paper all at once. They are far too heavy, especially at month-end where a bundle might weigh up to 18kgs.  The papers are not being dumped,” he added.

The distribution contractors face many challenges along the distribution route. In some instances, the distribution vehicles are followed by people who collect papers to sell to the recyclers, so the contractors place the bundles of papers behind shrubs or walls to prevent them from being stolen.

Harilal said he appreciates the concern from readers, however, they can rest easy knowing that their favourite reads do reach their intended destinations.

However, if a bundle of paper is found after the day of distribution, kindly report this to the distribution department. The distribution days are as follows:
