Must-visit Hillcrest coffee shops

The days are cold, but the coffee is hot in Hillcrest.

OUR mornings and evenings are growing colder as winter settles in at the Upper Highway. A hot cup to warm your hands is the answer, and we know the right places to find them.

Bona Terra Café

In a green valley close to the M13, Bona Terra Café is located at 1 Bona Terra Rd, Assagay. They offer wholesome meals and freshly baked scones and cakes in an informal setting. Wrought-iron décor, wooden tables and glass panels give the impression of dining in a conservatory. The adjacent plant nursery and rolling hills add to the peaceful atmosphere. Cocktails, served from their well-stocked bar, make this a great place to linger after the coffee cups have been cleared away.

Lineage Coffee

Located in the compact CBD at Shop 11, Hillcrest Centre, 42 Old Main Road, this roastery is one of the best places to enjoy a hot cup of your favourite brew.  Pair it with a generous slice of cake and settle into the industrial-style coffee shop. Open your laptop and watch the world go by.

Headed up by Craig Charity, a former South African Barista champion, the shop is also home to a roastery and workshop. In addition to serving delicious coffee, they supply coffee equipment, repair machines and run coffee courses.

Millflour Café @ Fig Trees Farm

This farm-style restaurant and bakery is the perfect family-friendly destination. Located a short distance from Hillcrest at 57 Inanda Road, this rustic venue has outdoor tables and a large play area. Delicious breakfasts, lunches, coffees and home-styled baked goods are served in a relaxed setting under tall, shady trees, and child-friendly activities are close by. Order a pizza and relax outside while the children enjoy the laser tag, cycle tracks and driving range that are on the same property.
