Waterfall residents revamp their green haven

The corner of Howick Road and Tiger Avenue had been neglected, and the equipment was in poor condition. The park was no longer a fun outdoor environment for kids. As a result, the residents set out to change that.

THE phrase ‘be the change you want to see in the world’ perfectly fits a group of Waterfall residents who banded together to beautify a local park. On February 19, Tiger Park Corner was presented, showcasing the many hours of hard labour put in by residents to restore it to its former grandeur. The committee resolved to revamp the local community park five months ago.

Most residents said they no longer felt safe. Chantelle Aldridge, a resident who plays a significant role in the community’s security and first response groups is in the process of setting up an NPO which aims to clean up the Waterfall area.

Aldridge said, “The park has become the heart of our community and for that it makes all the hours worth it.”

Nothing beats watching kids play and having carefree fun, she added.

Aldridge said, Fern Burger, who has lived in the area for five years, was the driving force behind the park renovation and provided the majority of the funding for the community initiative. She has been physically fixing the amenities with her 12-year-old daughter Amelia.

According to the duo, the park is a symbol of hope and a gathering place for the community.
