Fabulous reads: Buckle up for charming beach read

Book review - Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews.

Sunset Beach, Mary Kay Andrews, Pan Macmillan, ISBN: 9781529021400

THIS novel is absolutely jam-packed with family drama, humour and mystery, so I suggest you strap in now as you are going to be in for an emotional rollercoaster of a ride.

Imagine, after a 20-year absence, your father rocks up at your mother’s funeral and you find out that he is married to your best friend from high school, who also tossed you to the curb in ninth grade. Your frenemy is now your stepmother!

This delightful beach read follows Drue Campbell, now in her mid-30s, who, after her mother’s death and a knee injury from her obsessive kiteboarding, finds herself homeless and unemployed. She is then offered a job by her emotionally underivable father at his Sunset Beach legal practice. It turns out that her stepmother will also be her office manager.

Drue has also just inherited her grandparent’s old ramshackle Sunset Beach cottage, so chill out and enjoy as she begins her life anew and takes goes on numerous adventures, including help uncover the truth behind and an unsolved homicide.  – Cynthia McGeean
