Highway dance school makes award-winning moves
Michele Pope has been awarded the Dance School of the Year.
LOCAL dance studio, Michele Pope Studio of Dance has been awarded the South Africa Prestige Award, Dance School of the Year.
The Prestige Awards recognise small and medium-sized businesses that are the best in their industry for a period of 12 months.
The dance studio has been around for 30 years with studios in Hillcrest and Padfield Park.

Owner and dance teacher, Michele Pope who started dancing at the age of five, said dance builds up confidence, co-ordination, muscle tone, musicality and creativity.
Pope said she has seen many dancers from her studio graduate to start their own dance studios.
“We strive for dance service excellence and take great joy in building up a dancer not only in technique but also creatively,” she said.
The studio was not only awarded for excellence in dance but also for its passion for giving back.
Over the years, the dance studio has welcomed children from the Shongweni village, offering them to experience all the positivity that dance can bring in one’s life.
Pope has trained girls from Ingane Yami children’s home, free of charge for the last six years.

“They have absolutely loved being able to express their creativity through dance, while also benefiting from the discipline and self-worth that ballet instils.
“Michele has chosen to use what she has in her hands to make a difference in the lives of our children, and we cannot express our gratitude enough,” said Patricia Deacons, marketing officer for Ingane Yami.
The dance studio offers, classical ballet, modern jazz, tap, Latin, hip hop, contemporary, as well as adult classical among many other genres.
