Hillcrest SAPS urges crime victims to report all cases

Hillcrest SAPS advised the public to report crime as soon as it happens as police need the information to identify hot spots.

HILLCREST SAPS reminded the public, once again, to report all cases as this will assist police with the correct data of crimes and where they are being committed.

“Reporting all cases gives us an indication of the areas where we need to focus and increase our patrols. We analyse all the crime trends,” said the Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Captain Linzi Smith.
She stated that crime is analysed on reported crime. “As police, we then focus on targeted areas and place our vehicles to specifically patrol those areas,” she said.

For the police to try and be effective as possible, Smith urged the community to report their cases timeously and not to delay.
“It is also important to have your house numbered correctly and clearly. We are experiencing time delays in responding as houses are not numbered. Domestic violence is a serious crime and comes with a serious sentence, if found guilty. Our courts are showing a zero tolerance on these cases.
“If the community can work together with police, and we have more vigilant people, we can make a difference,” she added.

To report crime cases, the public can contact 08600 10111.
