Sign up for Open Door lay counselling course

The Open Door Crisis Care Centre urges residents to sign up for its lay counselling course.

THE Open Door Crisis Care Centre’s seven-week lay counselling course starts on Saturday, January 29.

This course is a must for lay counsellors, neighbourhood watch volunteers, educators and community workers who are involved with men, women and children who face challenges at home or school.

It is also open to those who want to improve their own life skills to better deal with conflict, work and social related problems.

The course offers psychology students hands-on training and is recommended by lecturers in various universities and colleges.

The course teaches participants basic counselling skills; how to deal with conflict; address social issues of rape, domestic violence and child abuse; as well as training on the various Acts and Bills, including the Sexual Offences Act, the Domestic Violence Bill, the Children’s Act and the Trafficking in Persons Act. In excess of 5 000 men and women have undergone life-changing experiences through this course.

The centre emphasised that all Covid-19 related regulations will be adhered to.
