Donation rolls in for Highway Hospice

Bowlers and supporters gathered at the Lahee Park Bowling Club to raise awareness on cancer and to raise much-needed funds for the Highway Hospice.

THE Tikkeys Tournament, which is held in honor of Clinton Stoltz, was a resounding success again this year as R52 000 was raised for Highway Hospice.

On Sunday, bowlers and supporters gathered at the Lahee Park Bowling Club (BC) for the event. They wore pink to show their support for people suffering from cancer and those who have lost their lives to the illness.

Dale Otto, the president of the Lahee Park BC, said they started this initiative three years ago.

“It was in honour of a close friend, Clinton, who succumbed to cancer four years ago. Highway Hospice was then the perfect charity to raise funds for as they care for cancer patients. He was a bowler, and I also played cricket with him for 20 years,” said Otto.

He said the competition, the Tikkeys Tournament, is held on the last Sunday of the month. “All of the money raised throughout the year is then given to the hospice. Last year we raised R44 000,” he said.

Otto thanked everyone who supported the cause. “A special mention to Brendan Hurst from Laceys Toys for their R10 000 donation to hospice,” he said.
