Organisations team up to spread Christmas cheer

The festive gathering hosted by the Alphas Neighbourhood Watch and the Bellair Community Policing Forum included games with prizes, hotdogs, baked treats, and party packs for the children.

THE Alphas Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) partnered with the Bellair Community Policing Forum (CPF) to host a Christmas party for the underprivileged children in Rossburgh, Seaview and Bellair.

Wendy Govender had a vision to light up Tafta Park on Woolwich Road and give the community a bit of joy, love and happiness. She was supported by her husband, Rishin Govender.

The idea then grew into something bigger and better when a group of passionate community members, Claudine and Rob Doble, Serena Sydney, Sardiya and Irfan Ismail, Yoelanda and Brian Cousins and Lizette Myburg, gathered to host a party.

Bellair CPF members join in to support the Christmas party for underprivileged children in the community.

The festive gathering included games with prizes, hotdogs, baked treats, and party packs for the children. Freddie and Amy Kruger joined in with a cooked meal for families.

Due to the inclement weather, the venue was changed to the RMC church, courtesy of Pastor Glen. Later a Father Christmas parade was held through the streets of Rossburgh, Seaview and Bellair.

This time, the rain did not stop the Alpha’s from spreading their love. Wendy shared a heartfelt thanks to all of the sponsors for their support. Sergeant Pam Pillay, the communications officer at Bellair SAPS, said the initiative was sponsored by the Bellair CPF and the Alphas NHW. It was aimed at providing the underprivileged children with goodies they might not receive during Christmas.

“The party was part of creating an awareness for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, to value children, irrespective of status. Bellair SAPS appreciates every effort made by the community to encourage and motivate children, and especially for their efforts in creating solidarity within the Bellair community,” said Pillay.
