Cowie Hill Lions Club makes a meaningful donation

The money raised through the sale of clothes for 18 inch dolls was donated to the Baby Hope House and the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CHOC).

MEMBERS of the Lions Club of Cowies Hill raised R 10 000 for Baby Hope House and the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CHOC).

The fundraising project was ignited by the challenges that many organisations are facing due to lockdown. Since the beginning of lockdown, Lion Carol Browne has been making clothes for 18 inch dolls and sells them to raise funds for children’s charities.

The two charities each received a R5 000 donation. During the club’s last general business meeting for this year, the president, Bronwyn Paijmans, noted that the club has been active in recent months.

It also welcomed four new members; Karen and Peter Hyde, Claire Perks and Rebecca Bullough. To wrap up for the year, Paijmans paid tribute to the work done by club members throughout 2021.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has forced the club to think differently about projects and fundraising. We are glad to have been able to meet in person again and undertake service projects. Food Collections have been undertaken monthly and have been very successful,” said Paijmans.

She thanked the public for their generosity, and confirmed that the organisations, which are recipients of the donated food, are working to help relieve hunger among vulnerable individuals.

The Lions Club of Cowies Hill meets at the Interpretative Centre at the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve on the second Saturday of every month at 10:00.

To find out more about the club, contact Paijmans on 072 260 0352, the club’s secretary, Carol Browne, on 084 776 2730 or the membership chairman, Lyn Botha, on 083 262 9153.
