Pinetown SAPS warns of spike in crime

Pinetown SAPS said that while it has increased police visibility, it urged the community to remain vigilant.

PINETOWN police has warned the public to be on alert as the festive season approaches.

The Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele said the problematic crimes are those that are called trio crimes: carjacking, house robberies and business robberies.

“Street robberies in the Pinetown CBD are also a huge challenge,” he said.
To decrease these crimes, Manqele said local SAPS have increased police visibility, have launched stop and search operations as well as blue light patrols in Pinetown.
“There are also crime awareness campaigns that are conducted together with other government departments and stakeholders to sensitise the community about crime in the area,” he said.

He highlighted that they hosted a campaign recently that focused on robberies and distributed pamphlets to the community.

Manqele urged motorists to close windows when they approached intersections and congested areas.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
