The Kloof and Highway SPCA team which was on high alert and took in nine stray dogs last night.

ONE dog, a male boerboel cross, died shortly after it was brought into the Kloof and Highway SPCA following last night’s loud bangs.

The manager at the non-profit organisation, Barbara Patrick, reported that nine stray dogs were admitted to the SPCA on Thursday, November 4.

According to Patrick, the SPCA team attended to various call outs within the Highway area and said all of their dedicated inspectors, as well as kennel supervisors and managers, were at the SPCA until 11pm.

“The dog that died was brought in by a resident. He died minutes after arriving at our clinic. The boerboel cross had collapsed and was in severe shock. He was immediately put onto oxygen and, upon checking vitals, was found to have a temperature of 42.9,” she said.

The SPCA team expressed that they were heartbroken that this terrible suffering was endured by an animal and reminded pet owners to take note of upcoming fireworks and to take necessary measures to ensure their pets are safe.

Kloof and Highway SPCA’s team worked tirelessly to keep the stray dogs safe.

Among last night’s rescues was a terrified dog that got stuck in a gate and was luckily freed from a terrible fate.

“Another scared dog was caught darting through traffic,” added Patrick.

The Kloof and Highway SPCA thanked everyone who dropped off stray and injured animals.
