#LGE: DA takes the lead in Ward 9 while retaining most wards

DA councillors, Melanie Brauteseth and Tex Collins will serve their wards another term.

VOTING stations in the Highway are were packed with eager voters for the Local Government Elections and the results reveal that residents, especially in Ward 9, were ready to make a change.

The ward was led by Patrick Mncube, under the governance of the African National Congress (ANC), and was reclaimed by the Democratic Alliance.

The previous PR councillor, Nonsikilelo Pearl Msomi has won the hearts and the votes of the residents of Ward 9.

Ward 9 includes Waterfall, Crestholme and Molweni.

In Ward 10, Councillor Tex Collins retained his position for another term.

Collins, during his term, saw the Kloof Civic Hall revamped, the completion of the Ashley Drive bridge in Hillcrest and another bridge in Stockville Road.

His priorities for this new term are to deal with the electricity billing system and the Parks Department.

“There are many errors in the way the City is operating and handling the electricity billing department,” said Collins.

Ward 10 covers parts of Pinetown, Kloof, Gillitts and Hillcrest.

Ward 18 councillor, Melanie Brauteseth.

DA councillor, Melanie Brauteseth will run for another term in Ward 18. Her ward covers the Pinetown CBD, Farningham Ridge, Hatton Estate, Paradise Valley, Cowies Hill and Chiltern Hills.

In Ward 21 however, the ANC secured the ward and the new councillor is Nelly Nyanisa, who takes over from Mfanafuthi ‘Mfana’ Qwabe.

Ward 21 covers New Germany and some parts of Clermont.
