From drab to fab – Highway Mail’s mural is underway

The artists who will work on this much-anticipated mural are Brendan Lyle (AKA Uno Bear) and Jade Pieters (AKA Tonto).

THE cat’s out the bag! In last week’s edition of the Highway Mail, it was revealed that a fun mural will soon be added to the front exterior of the building, replacing the boring, industrial red brick.

The Highway Mail office is home to the Highway Mail, Berea Mail, Northglen News, Eyethu Newspapers, Queensburgh News and the Get It Magazine.

According to business manager for Caxton Durban, Nicole Vosser, working in the industrial area of New Germany is not the most exciting of areas to work in.

“We run a publishing and printing business and multi-media is our game,” she said.

The artists who will work on this much-anticipated mural are Brendan Lyle (AKA Uno Bear) and Jade Pieters (AKA Tonto).

Artist Jade Pieters grew up in Hillcrest with his mother, whom he described as ‘artsy’.

Jade Pieters (AKA Tonto).

“She always encouraged me to explore and find what I love to do in life, whether it be art, dancing or acting. She has always been on board and has always been my biggest supporter,” he said.

Pieters attended Hillcrest Primary School and Hillcrest High School and, even though he chose an awesome package of subjects at school, he always remembers drawing in all of his classes.

“When I was approached about doing a mural for the Highway Mail offices, my first thought was ‘WOW’. I was very excited to do something like this, especially because I had been approached by one of the designers for Caxton, whom I believe has a great eye for design and art as a whole.

“They all do, their design department is very talented – so I felt very honoured,” he said. Pieters said that the mural will be very ‘Highway Mail’ and will celebrate the company, its staff and the community.
