New playground for Embo crèche

Heart in Hands with help from donors built a beautiful new playground area, complete with a little bike track at iKhwezi Crèche in Embo.

CHILDREN from iKhwezi Crèche in Embo now have an upgraded, safe space to play after the installation of a retaining secured the bank just in time for the rainy season.

The crèche was started in 2012 by Deborah Shabalala.

Shabalala said she saw a need to provide a safe haven for children and this prompted her to start iKhwezi Crèche.

“My vision is to groom, love, nurture and feed the children in my community, while providing them with education. The crèche is also a second home for the children while their parents are at work,” she said.

The retaining wall was made possible by the Upper Highway NPO, Hearts in Hands.

Founder, Tracy Klokie said she started supporting the crèche in her personal capacity nearly two years ago due to her passion for the work it does with the local children.

“I have always been in awe of how incredibly clean and well run Deborah keeps iKhwezi Crèche and was so excited when approached by a generous donor, who would like to remain anonymous, that supported my passion for ‘play learning’ for the children.

“Their support enabled us to build a beautiful new playground area, complete with a little bike track, with everything the children need for their gross motor skills development and on the little bikes. Educators can teach them ‘road safety rules’ as well,” said a happy Klokie.

She added that they were so grateful for the support they received from the community, which helps them to make a differences in various communities in need.
