eThekwini municipality in a fight to reduce new HIV infections
A programme to address challenges relating to HIV/AIDS, TB and STIs among young people was launched by eThekwini mayor.
ETHEKWINI mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda launched an initiative to reduce the rate of new HIV infections among the youth.
According to City spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, eThekwini is the first City in the province to launch the HIV/AIDS, TB and STI Behavioral Campaign Programme.

The aim of this programme which was launched at the Cato Crest Community Hall on Tuesday, October 5, is to address challenges relating to HIV/AIDS, TB and STIs among young people.
Mayisela said this comes as many patients have discontinued their treatment during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There has also been an increase in new HIV infections mostly prevalent among adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 15 and 24 during this period,” said Mayisela.
eThekwini mayor pleaded with young people to make use of these facilities to protect themselves and encouraged those infected with HIV, to start taking their treatment.
